Gerard Poirier, 95, passed away peacefully in the Veteran’s Affairs Canada Unit at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.
He served his country honorably during WWII as a decorated Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He spent the next few decades working as a conductor for Canadian National Railway. He was a cherished citizen of his beloved New Carlisle where he was born and lived the majority of his life.
He was predeceased in 2011 by his wife of 65 years, Marion (Nelson) Poirier and in 1965 by son, Robert. He is survived by his sister, Therese (Ron) Kelly, Kingston, ON; brother, Clary Poirier, St-Nicolas, QC; daughter, Cheryl Poirier, New Mills, NB; grandson, Robert Sams (daughter-in-law, Sarah Mounsey), Moncton, NB; grandson, Jeremy Sams (great-grandson, Matteo Sams), Lloydminster, SK and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will take place in New Carlisle early in 2014 with a private burial service to follow in the spring.
